Male

First, you fill out a record card so that we know there are no contra-indications to you getting waxed. You are then shown to the room, the process is explained to you in more detail, you are then left to get undressed from the waist down. Keep your top on, sit/lie on the bed and cover yourself with the towel provided. The room is immaculate, the spatulas are not re-dipped into the wax after an application and you are given wipes to freshen up with before the treatment.

Yes, the first time, but most people say it isn’t as sore as they expected it to be. If you get waxed regularly the hair gets finer and sparser and therefore not as painful. If you are worried, take a couple of paracetamol or similar, 30minutes to an hour before your appointment time to take the edge off.

The ideal hair length is 1cm or slightly shorter, so probably wait around for 4weeks for the hair to grow back.

This is not uncommon for chest waxing or if the hair is particularly thick and/or course. Try taking an anti-histamine half an hour or so before your appointment time.

No, we use non-strip wax for intimate waxing. The wax goes on in a thicker layer and sets, then it is peeled off. We use the excellent wax, Outback Organics made here in the uk, for all male intimate waxing, underarms, eyebrows, ears and nostrils.

Yes, you can have a clipper length number 1 or number 2.

Yes, if you are having your anus/buttocks waxed. No, if it is just the penis and scrotum.

Some men do, slightly, as an involuntary reaction and that is nothing to worry about, we just carry on. However, if you are getting waxed for any other reason than to have your hair removed you then run the risk of embarrassing yourself, your appointment being cut short and still being charged.

We sell organic Australian Tea Tree Cream which is an excellent moisturiser for the waxed area. Use it after showering and it will reduce the chance of ingrown hairs and soothes the skin. Use shower gel instead of soap as it is less likely to clog your pores. Any area that has been waxed should be exfoliated once or twice a week as you feel the hair starting to grow back. This will help the hair break through the surface of the skin. Always moisturise after showering/bathing.

Hot wax is a wax that sets directly onto your skin and is used by applying an oil to protect the surface layer of skin; it is allowed to dry before it’s quickly and gently peeled away. This method is less painful than most methods of hair removal and pulls the hair out by the root. Highly recommended for intimate and sensitive areas. Strip wax is recommended for larger areas (i.e. backs, legs, chest etc.) and is applied thinly to the skin, then removed using paper strips.

Female

Hot wax is applied in a thick layer and left to set. It is gentler because the heat allows the hair follicle to open up before the wax is peeled off. Hot wax removes more stubborn hair and provides a superior finish.

We only use hot wax for bikini, underarm, and facial hair. We use strip wax for arms and legs. This means a thin layer of wax is applied and removed with a paper strip.

Keep the area moisturised, this will enable the hair to break through the skin easily.

Exfoliate one to two weeks after being waxed when you feel the hair growing back.

Do not exfoliate everyday, just once or twice a week at most.

Regularly wash your exfoliating gloves/mit in your washing machine.

Use our amazing organic tea tree cream on the waxed area after every shower.

Half centimetre or longer is ideal. If you feel it’s too long, don’t worry, we can trim it for you.

We supply disposable knickers for bikini and extended bikini waxes, or you can wear your own underwear, although there may be a risk of getting creams or wax on the fabric.
For G-string, Brazilian, and Hollywood waxes we prefer you remove your underwear.

We don’t mind if you don’t mind, but please only wear a tampon and use the wipes provided.

Bear in mind waxing can be slightly more painful when you are premenstrual or menstruating.

Gently exfoliate and moisturise the day before your treatment.
This will prepare your skin and remove dead skin cells, making your wax more comfortable.
Don’t use a sunbed/solarium for a couple of days prior to your appointment as this will sensitise the area.

Everyone is different, but you should get two good hair free weeks, then it will start to grow back.

Now is a good time to gently exfoliate to help the hair break through the skin.

Some people find the waxed area can be a little itchy for a couple of days around the two week stage, that’s normal.

Most people return to the salon every four or five weeks.

Let the hair grow to a minimum of half a centimetre long. The longer you can leave it the better.
Often, it can take more than one wax to get a smooth result, this is because some previously shaved hair will be in a resting phase and be too short to wax. It will look smooth, but feel a little stubbly until all the hair has grown out and been waxed.

Using hot/hard wax is much less painful than strip wax.
If you are concerned, you can take a paracetamol half an hour before your appointment.
If you are tired, run down, due your period or are hungover you might feel more sensitive.

Yes! Designer Waxing is open until 8 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and there are Femfresh wipes in the room for you to feel your best after a long day.

Avoid sun exposure, deodorant, highly perfumed lotions and potions, hot showers, sunbeds (for 48 hours), swimming pools, saunas, spas, and strenuous exercise (sweating) for 24 hours. Your pores are open, so you should avoid anything that would irritate the area or encourage bacteria.

Yes of course , Hollywoods and Brazilians are very popular amongst pregnant women and you can have them done up until one week before your due date. Our therapists are highly skilled in ensuring your wax is as comfortable and pain free as a possible
